Prof. Dr. Daniel Salchow

Prof. Dr. med. Daniel J. Salchow is a specialist in ophthalmology, with additional qualifications in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus (treatment of misalignment of the eyes), and has more than 20 years of experience. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and the Berlin Chamber of Physicians as an ophthalmologist. He is licensed as a physician in the USA (state of Connecticut). Prof. Salchow is your pediatric ophthalmologist in Berlin.
After his medical studies, he trained as a specialist in ophthalmology at Columbia University in New York (2001-2005). He then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC (2005-2007). From 2007 to 2012, Prof. Salchow was head of the department of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Yale Eye Center of Yale University in New Haven (USA), before returning to Germany to lead the section of pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and neuroophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Charité from 2012 to 2024. He is teaching coordinator for the university eye clinic.
Since 2017, Prof. Salchow has been continuously listed as “FOCUS TOP PHYSICIAN” in the FOCUS doctors’ list and since 2023 as OUTSTANDING SPECIALIST in Germany’s Stern doctor list.
Prof. Salchow is an internationally recognized pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus expert. Another focus is neuroophthalmology. Prof. Salchow has published over sixty scientific articles in international journals, and given more than 100 lectures and presentations at conferences on four continents. He is one of the editors of the journal “Strabismus” and is a reviewer for numerous other scientific journals. Prof. Salchow serves on the advisory board of the Society for Neuroophthalmology, Strabismus, and Pediatric Ophthalmology (GSNK), is a member of the Scientific Bureau of the World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS), and is active in the “Teaching Working Group” of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG).

Dr. Melanie Michelczak is a certified ophthalmologist with focus on pediatric ophthalmology and offers you and your child a personal, qualified and thourough ophthalmological evaluation and treatment.
She has a long experience in the field of strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), both diagnostically and therapeutically. The cooperation with Prof. Salchow allows us to also offer you surgical correction of strabismus if this is necessary.
Her training at leading unversity medical centers makes Dr. Michelczak well prepared to help you and your child with any eye problem.
